MOME.estudio, in its project for the interior for the EMB apartment, came up with a wooden storage wall that runs the length of the space: this serves as storage and separates the bedroom from the living room on one side, while at its end it transforms into a flexible work area. This multifunctional band of natural oak wood crosses the house longitudinally following a curved path, ensuring that the bedroom and dressing area do not encroach on the kitchen and dining room, leading to a flowing common area where kitchen-dining room-living room follow each other in a natural way
EMB Apartment. Two architectural elements would solve the design of the entire living space
The EMB apartment, located in the center of Madrid, was a completely free space. All useful elements of the living space, including the possibility of two bedrooms and an area for working, had to be created. The entire program of the house was solved by means of only two architectural elements
The second element the architects designed is a module that absorbs the existing columns and ductwork. This element blends with the space thanks to the continuity of the finishes. The unit contains the bathroom inside, while hidden on its surface are a storage compartment and a pull-out bed that, thanks to properly arranged curtains, can form a second sleeping area if necessary
The flexible program is complemented by the custom design of two pieces of furniture: a sofa that adapts to the living area and its different uses, and which splits to divide the room; and a table-island that integrates into the kitchen and dining area in different positions to meet the needs of both spaces. Light flows throughout the house from one end to the other thanks to the continuous covering and its arrangement, reflecting off light surfaces and creating atmospheres that change throughout the day
