Living in 9 sqm. The Italian mini house for the new generations of urban nomads

aVOID is a prototype of a house on wheels that contains all the comforts you need for everyday life in just 9 square meters.

Inspired by the balance of the emptiness, from which it takes its name (a void), it looks like a single grey room developed longitudinally with no furnishings. Through the opening of specific wall devices, however, the space evolves horizontally and is transformed, thus meeting all the most common functions of a home.

The reclining bed first becomes a sofa for the study corner and then, combined with the folding table, a comfortable bench for two people. The wall gives way to a fully equipped kitchen with extractor hood, retractable sink, hob and storage shelves.

The large Schüco south-facing door with its customized design enables both natural illumination of the space and its complete opening to the outside. A small bathroom made of okumè houses the services and a shower designed to minimize water consumption. A retractable staircase finally provides access to the terrace, the most evocative corner for you to feel like you are actually citizens of the world.

The tiny house movement, which began in the 1970s in the United States, tells the story of a new generation of people ready to continually transform their lives, regardless of the pressures of society, in favor of a freer and less constrained lifestyle.

It is this continuous desire for change that inspires the architectural ensemble of aVOID, characterized by two blind side walls that, although they seem to not belong anywhere, in reality, because of their aesthetic incompleteness, make the house fit into any context and community.

The development of a more fluid urban planning, capable of rethinking the social district in a less rigid way, is precisely the aim of the Bauhaus Campus, a small experimental village, of which aVOID is a part, housed inside the Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum of Design in Berlin. Within the socio-cultural experiment, curated by Architect Van Bo Le-Mentzel and developed in collaboration with Tinyhouse University, the aVOID project is called to investigate the type of terraced house with the possibility of creating future migration districts, i.e. temporary settlements where housing on wheels can easily move from one location to another.

Twenty-seven technical partners contributed to the construction of aVOID. Three months of relentless work has resulted in the creation of a mini dwelling, almost entirely functional, made with materials from Italian and German companies who believe in the revolutionary impact of small homes on the property market. The site is still a " work in progress " for the plant engineering part, which will be developed in the laboratory of the Bauhaus Campus. Schüco Italia is one of the project's supporters.
