Mars, the architecture that takes inspiration from the suggestive landscape of the Red Planet

Mars, a true journey into fantasy and imagination: located in the midst of a new and almost sterile urban development in the city of Hwaseong, near the city of Seoul, it creates the illusion of living on the planet Mars

A multi-purpose building inspired by Mars.

The client from Mars wanted something out of the ordinary and omnipresent, a multi-purpose building that would contain their own home plus two additional units for rent and several commercial spaces, also for rent. The architectural firm Moon Hoon perfectly meets the requirements presented, designing a design that is anything but conventional.

The different levels create an illusory movement.

Each level of Mars is independent from the others and has a unique geometry that evokes movement and an imaginary context. The levels are connected like a 3D puzzle, creating an illusory experience of different gravity. The first level is rectangular and open, intended for commercial use, the second contains two apartments, while the third features the client's apartment.

Dynamic experience

The floor slabs of the 2nd and 3rd floors, which also serve as the roof of the 1st and 2nd floors respectively, are not flat but angled and curved, a very rare aspect in architecture, for a dynamic and illusory spatial experience, where the curved floors provide a false sense of gravity. The sphere on the 3rd floor mimics mini Pantheons or Boulle Spheres.
