Art Villas 2 in Costa Rica and its luxurious space with clean lines

Not far from the city of Uvita, Costa Rica, there is a small resort consisting of three luxurious villas nestled in the jungle, a place where visitors merge with the surrounding nature, clearing their minds and experiencing luxury and adventure at the same time. One facade completely closed in contrast to the other, completely open, to the surrounding nature give life to a unique space.

A project immersed in tropical nature

Atelier Villa, designed by the Formafatal studio, is a private residence created for an investor and his family, nestled in a breathtaking natural setting. Located on a steep slope, the villa extends for 26 meters within lush tropical vegetation, overlooking the ocean and surrounding hills on one side. The rear wall, on the other hand, intentionally lacks windows to ensure privacy from the driveway and adjacent villas. This project is a perfect example of how contemporary architectural projects can combine functionality, landscape, and intimacy.

A structure that erases boundaries

The philosophy of the project is based on the idea of eliminating the boundary between interior and exterior, while also emphasizing the simplicity of construction and the purity of lines. The entire building is based on a steel frame with modular spans of 4x4 meters, which give rhythm and order to the space. The soft colors of the walls and the green roof help the villa blend in with the surrounding environment, integrating harmoniously with the lush nature.

Facades that filter light and shadow

The facades facing the ocean and the jungle are characterized by large perforated aluminum panels, which offer sun protection, rust resistance, and a suggestive play of light and shadow. Each section has a different perforated design, creating a dynamic and ever-evolving visual narrative. The COR-TEN cladding gives a material and changing appearance, in line with the building's aesthetic identity.

Ancient Materials for a Contemporary Aesthetic

The entire back wall of the villa is clad in charred wood, crafted using the Japanese technique Shou Sugi Ban, which makes the material waterproof and durable over time. The layout of the rooms follows a minimalist spirit, consistent with the project's aesthetic: storage rooms, bathrooms, and kitchen are arranged along the blind wall, leaving the rest of the house free to open up towards the outside.

Custom interiors blending craftsmanship and design

The interiors stand out for the use of warm and earthy tones, achieved with natural materials that provide a sense of warmth and continuity with the external landscape. The furnishings, excluding the living room and dining chairs, were custom-made in collaboration with local artisans. Some elements, on the other hand, were produced in the Czech Republic and then transported on-site, showcasing the care and personalization that distinguish every detail of the project.
