The idea of a vacation home on the coast is reflected in the design of two wooden cabins, La Loica & La Tagua, located about two hours from Santiago and designed by Chilean studio Croxatto y Opazo Arquitectos. The cabins are located on the Lagunilla hill, facing the "Lobera", a large rock mass jutting out into the sea, home to sea lions and native species
La Loica & La Tagua, two cabins to "hover" over the ocean and dominate the horizon
La Loica & La Tagua are two vacation homes located on the Chilean coast in Matanzas and designed by Croxatto y Opazo Arquitectos. They blend in with the surrounding nature and "dominate" it at the same time, from a height of 80 meters above sea level
La Loica & La Tagua were both named in honor of native bird species of the region and are positioned in the slope using a structure of wooden pylons that support the main platform on which the entire project is developed. The buildings are made entirely of wood and feature 20 square meters for La Loica and 25 square meters for La Tagua
The interior rooms are visually connected thanks to a large mezzanine: dining room, bathroom and kitchen are arranged on the access level, using furniture that blends with the architecture, in order to optimize space. The large windows to the west increase the feeling of "hovering" over the ocean, dominating the horizon
The access doors of each cabin can be opened wide into the terraces to the north, to connect and interact with the outside and extend the interior spaces. This also allows the main structure to act as a shield against strong southwesterly winds while consolidating the terrace's viewpoint
