Refuge in the forest in France. Meeting point for hikers and curious children

A safe haven, located in the peat bog of Bertrichamp, France, is designed by Studiolada, conceived as a meeting point in the middle of the forest for hikers and children in search of adventure

Studiolada's project wanted to create a meeting point in the Bertrichamp peat bog, with the aim of giving shelter to all hikers and visitors who ventured into the forest, in search of a dry place

The project was conceived as a participatory workshop of volunteers, in which various companies are not involved, each with the means at its disposal and whose teams were composed of municipal workers and village people. It provides accommodation for hikers and children of the "Green Class" school who come every week to discover the treasures of the last peat. The small courtyard offers a corner of rest away from the water, without impacting on the environment: the wood of the architecture merges with the forest

Wooden structure

The corrugated and massive but airy frame is in the clear like an insect in a larger staircase. It offers a new and intriguing use of the "good old wooden board". Everyone can invent their own interpretation of the building according to their imagination. The structure, immersed in light, which looks like a cloud, is composed solely of old planks, screwed together to form a dense network that allows an even distribution of tensions in the frame

The beams and pillars are smooth and aligned, but the position of the beams is progressively shifted to withstand the various strains. This particular arrangement also creates arches and crosses, which serve as a reinforcement for the three main floors of the building: lateral, longitudinal and roof. No reinforcement panels are required. The lateral expansion is allowed because there is nothing holding it: the arches are crossed to allow movement and the corrugated Plexiglas is extensible like an accordion

Wooden structure

Created from the real need to provide a place of shelter, its modest "functionality" has not prevented the creation of an architecture that offers an additional reason to visit this place
