Alejandra is a sculptor who desires a home for artists where reflection on how much the interpenetration of environments for the production of her works and for her rest is alive and attentive

The redevelopment project of Castroferro Arquitectos starting from a basic dwelling focuses so that the architecture helps to emotionally and physically separate the two places. A ground floor and basement for work and an upper floor for rest.  The work area is treated with the utmost literalness, all upper floor structures are left exposed, the wooden floor structure with pine beams that are carefully reinforced, as well as the original walls with their various construction patches

The house was built and will continue to be built this way, adding layers.  In order to provide the necessary background for a workspace where the sculptural creation should be the center of attention, it was decided to abstract the entire material base by means of a white mantle that covers everything, thus de-materializing it and eluding the context, and highlighting Alejandra's sculptural work.  The sculptor also wanted to merge her workplace, where the evidence, mistakes, dirt, process,... could be seen. with a small exhibition area for visitors. A small exhibition staircase made of concrete and the recycled beams of the house fulfills this exhibition function

The artist's living quarters follow upstairs: below remains the space for the work, with an abstract yet massive atmosphere given by the stone and polished concrete floor. Housing will be another matter. The first thing is that the space would not be similar. It is decided to remove the existing partition in order to enjoy the whole volume. The fragile pine trusses are reinforced with laminated fir posts attached to the existing structure with metal plates left exposed, continuing the idea of honest architecture consisting of successive layers of construction over time typical of this type of housing

The upper space dedicated to living is deliberately treated as a contrast to the materials of the lower stone, resolving with warm-toned wood, used in the flooring and floor structure, the new spatial performance that accommodates the duty of resting
