A compact shape, capable of capturing sunlight and distributing interior spaces in the best possible way: this is what Casa en Cerros looks like, the dwelling located in the Spanish municipality of Villalbilla, in the province of Madrid

The elongated shape of the land where Casa en Cerros stands conditions the construction of the dwelling, which has a square floor plan as its starting point. The strategies used by Slow Studio to capture sunlight are twofold: the introduction of a side courtyard, which generates a new facade at the back of the house, and the elevation of the roof, which generates a series of slopes and skylights that illuminate the central rooms of the house

The living areas are located on the main facade to the south. Behind them we find the hallway that is accessed through the courtyard and serves as a small reading room and master bedroom. On the north facade, on the other hand, we find the dressing room, bathrooms, engine room and an open office

The house allows a large number of internal circulations: all rooms are connected and it is possible to make each space independent according to its use. Due to the very compact floor plan, energy losses through the facade are extremely low. The + compactness is interrupted only by the courtyard that allows sunlight into the rooms to the north

In terms of construction, the proposed facade is a ventilated double-wall brick facade with insulation. On these walls rests a wooden roof structure that allows for the different inclinations and skylights. All carpentry and doors are made of wood. The finishes have an industrial look, leaving the brick walls and exposed fixtures uncovered
