The PROARH studio, in order to achieve optimal conditions for both educational contents of the Priko Vode school, moves the built volume away from the street in its design, thus opening up space for a semi-basement on which a kindergarten and nursery are placed, oriented toward the entrance dedicated to them. With the addition of the necessary play area and some visually appealing plants on the roof, the kindergarten and school are thus indirectly separated even though they are still part of the same volume
Priko Vode Elementary School and Kindergarten. An unusual mash-up of educational facilities
The challenge of the project for the Priko Vode school in Solin, Croatia, was to combine in the same facility both an elementary school and a kindergarten, which are, although similar in purpose, not only different in their use and character, but also limit each other
The kindergarten and elementary school spaces are thus located on top of each other, facing south and overlooking the Mediterranean garden on the roof. In terms of form, the architectural object is a simple parallelepiped divided horizontally so that its now separated parts are at right angles, thus following the concept of accentuated physical separation of contents within the volume
This volume, very static in its character, is softened through the choice of material for the facade: white perforated sheet metal makes the surfaces light and soft and softens the dominant volume
The design for Priko Vode shows an interesting exploration of requirements and constraints driven by the desire to create a quality space for both educational programs that must work perfectly together, even if separated from each other
