Bar Leo Goudvisch. A mirror of Amsterdam's cultural mosaic

Its designers define it as "Tradition in transition": the bar Leo Goudvisch embodies the tradition of the city's brown cafes mixed with innovative elements using impromptu techniques and materials

Color, woods, marbles, and brass: the Leo's palette

Belonging to the family of Goudvisch bars spread throughout the city, the Leo designed by Studio Modijefsky is the latest one created in the lively Beukenplein area. The bar's style, with a palette ranging from purples to grays, is inspired by the architecture of the building that houses it. Walnut cladding and oak furniture warm up the atmosphere embellished by marbles and brass details

The project focuses: innovation with Pojagi and the impressive bar counter

In the interior design projects of the Dutch studio, the search for innovation is an important focus: here, among traditional materials, the Korean textile technique of Pojagi is introduced for the curtains that bring in the recurring theme of purple throughout the bar. The counter is an imposing elevated sculpture, composed of white and burgundy marble, aged brass, dark oak wood, and black and white terrazzo. The back of the counter is organized by a metal structure with a wooden backdrop, integrated lights, and the signature made by a Goudvisch neon sign

A high degree of craftsmanship

An aged brass panel displays the beer selection next to the counter, while structured glass cabinets showcase the liquor collection. The space is embroidered with rich details that demonstrate the high degree of craftsmanship of the project. Inlaid woods, glass lamps crafted with traditional techniques, and the Goudvisch logo in marble set into the wood. A perfect blend of nostalgia and modernity

The mezzanine and the outdoor area

In the mezzanine, a more intimate space unfolds characterized by the play of light from glass lamps, artworks, and custom-made wooden furniture. The outdoor area brings the Leo's atmosphere outside, creating a close relationship with the neighborhood. Between tradition and innovation, the latest addition to the Goudvisch family reaffirms the spirit of Amsterdam where openness and hospitality meet design excellence
