Bonnie bar-bistro design celebrates the hospitality of old cafes in Amsterdam, amid drinks and stories

Bonnie bar-bistro design celebrates the hospitality of old cafes in Amsterdam, amid drinks and stories

After 119 years of serving the neighborhood, Café Bos needed a deep renovation. "Drie Wijzen uit Oost" and Studio Modijefsky collaborated to transform this classic Amsterdam locale into Bonnie: a refined and traditional bar-bistro with all the necessary characteristic elements such as mirrors, classic tiles, old-style wood, and neon lights

The transformation of

The transformation of "Dijkhuis" between modern touches and the respect for the heritage

In the north of Amsterdam, a traditional Dijkhuis, a dyke house, is transformed into a single-family home, with interiors that try to fit in with the original architecture, while refreshing it at the same time

Volare: a modern restaurant which reminisces about the past but embraces the contemporary

Volare: a modern restaurant which reminisces about the past but embraces the contemporary

West Amsterdam is home to Volare, the new Italian restaurant that on weekends transforms into Bomboloni's bar, distinguished by muted colors, arches and patios that evoke memories of Italian summers: a sensual swagger mixed with absolute simplicity

De Biertuin West in Amsterdam. Interior and exterior design inspired by the German biergärten

De Biertuin West in Amsterdam. Interior and exterior design inspired by the German biergärten

The concept is inspired by the German biergärten, an open-air area surrounded by trees, where beer and food are served on long wooden tables, highlighting in this way the original architecture of the building.
Linearity, compactness and warmth are the main components of the design. These abstract elements are translated into an interplay of raw materials often found in outdoor spaces such as concrete, wood and copper

bar café floor and wood coverings

Cafeteria in Amsterdam symbol of a neighbourhood. The furniture divides the space into imaginary landscapes

The Bellamy neighbourhood was marginal to the city but since the 19th century people have been migrating to the suburbs like a caravan. The Modijefsky Studio transformed the journey into a concept of a bar and restaurant, hence the name Karavaan.

Tropical Cafeteria in Amsterdam. Strongly coloured furniture and floral decorations

A tropical Bar Botanique scene, designed by the Modijefsky Studio and created using refreshing interiors and floral decorations. Double high windows cover the entire facade of the angular building and extend into the interior, becoming the focal point of the design

CityHub Hotel Common room color and fabric

Hotels and community. In Rotterdam a multicoloured hostel for the new digital nomads

The Modijefsky studio designs a hotel in Rotterdam CityHub, a hotel for the digital nomad generation with interactive features and colours. The building is the result of the combination of three buildings, whose facades remain unchanged, while the interior spaces are redesigned and connected.
