Yaxché House: where preserved nature takes center stage

The design of the Yaxché House revolves entirely around the Yaxché tree: the hypothesis of cutting it down is set aside, leaving room for the opportunity to preserve it and place it on the main visual, spatial, and conceptual axis of the dwelling

A unique integration of architecture and nature

The Yaxché House is a 500-square-meter single-family housing project by P11 Arquitectos, located in the northern part of the city of Mérida, Yucatán, in a private residential area, with uniform vegetation except for a colossal Ya'ax'che (Ceibo) tree located on the sidewalk, destined to be cut down with the assumption of realizing the client's demands

Embracing environmental conservation and design integration

This project stands out for its unique approach to environmental conservation and design integration. At the architect's initiative, the tree is preserved, becoming a key element of the project. The house rises on two levels with a single, characteristic main axis that goes in the direction of the large Ya'ax'che tree at the entrance, to the last space of the house and its rear limit, with the aim of creating a permanent relationship between the interior spaces, resulting in a set of volumes aligned to the same horizontal body

Fusing architecture with nature

With the aim of highlighting the prominence of this Ceibo in the design of the house, elements such as transparent glass openings on the façade and the pergola roof were used, extending the view of the tree and its leafy foliage into the interior of the house, adding elements such as tile floors, marble, wood paneling on the walls, and spot lighting as part of the interior design in collaboration with GP Architects to realize the client's particular elegance and modernity
