Cova-Miradoiro: a modern house in harmony with nature

A unique Cova- Miradoiro house has been built in the Galician village of A Caeira, combining the harmony of nature and modern design. The project was designed to provide residents not only with functionality and comfort, but also with proximity to nature

Architecture integrated with nature

The Cova-Miradoiro project, born from the collaboration between architects and landscape designers, embodies nature-integrated architecture. Above being just a residence it becomes a testament to the harmonious coexistence of built space and the natural environment. Architects from the Gramatica Arquitectonica studio focused on creating a minimalist, simple form that evokes a sense of order and tranquility. One of the most fascinating elements of the Cova-Miradoiro house is its windows, which resemble giant mirrors reflecting the surrounding garden

Leafy garden and minimalist construction

In contrast to the minimalist construction of the house, Irene Díez Prieto designed a somewhat messy, leafy garden. The difference between the garden's naturalness and the minimalist aesthetic of the structure adds a unique character to it. The presence of this untamed greenery allows the house to blend perfectly into the surroundings, achieving seamless landscape integration

Cave-like ground floor

The house, featuring modern residential design, consists of two distinctly different parts: the ground floor and the upper floor. The ground floor is a kind of cave surrounded by a lush garden, which provides residents with privacy and an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The cave was created due to the strategic placement of the kitchen, a family room with a fireplace, and a separate studio serving as a guest room with its own bathroom and storage space. The deliberate placement of the guest room in a separate area allows for a balance between the family's personal space and that of their visiting guests

Intimate spaces and panoramic views

On the upper floor of the building, there are rooms offering intimate space for each family member. This is crucial for family unity—a delicate balance between collective belonging and valued personal identity. Each room has a separate balcony, from which one can admire panoramic views of the city of Pontevedra, the Lérez River, and, further afield, the mountains surrounding the valley, as well as the sky and stars

The authentic materials enriching the design

Incorporating genuine materials into Cova- Miradoiro project has been pivotal in recreating the sensory experience of the outdoors. Opting for authentic materials, rather than imitations, allowed to capture the essence of sound, humidity, and light reflection found in nature. Outside, the house features beige Galician granite on pavements and walls, brown copper for the roofs, and iroko wood on select paraments. Aluminum brown windows have been carefully selected to ensure their longevity and maintain perfect condition in the years to come. This approach ensures a seamless blend of natural elements with modern design, enhancing the overall ambiance of the space
