New idea of society and city: Italia Pavilion Expo 2025 Osaka

Fully disassemblable and reusable, the Italia Pavilion for Expo 2025 in Osaka is a "Hangar of Knowledge", an organism that, through its form and rich content, addresses the theme of the future of humanity and the planet by proposing responsible and virtuous interaction as a solution. Obviously through the lens of Italian culture

The built manifesto of the Italian vision for a sustainable future

Conceived and realized by MCA - Mario Cucinella Architects, the Italia Pavilion embodies the eco-sustainable and systemic vision typical of the studio's architectural projects: it is the "built manifesto of the Italian vision for a sustainable, circular, and shared future." The architecture of the Italian Pavilion is welcoming, open, and porous, manifesting the hospitable character of its people and its landscape. The main facade leading to the large foyer is open, equipped with transparent partitions that allow air to breathe while shielding the interiors from sunlight

Architecture as an interactive laboratory of sensations and narratives

The visitor goes through, actively involved, a laboratory of sensations and narratives that tell the Italian knowledge from the craftsmanship know-how, to the interactive reinterpretation of Renaissance theater, to the multimedia presentation of the ideal city, to the exhibition area of the Regions. Also highly impactful are the area dedicated to the exhibition of Caravaggio's "The Deposition," the original painting on loan from the Vatican Museums, and the Green Terrace on the roof which, with its contemplative labyrinth of 900 linear meters of hedge, presents the reinterpretation of the Italian garden

Outer skin in mineral fabric, dismountable structure in laminated wood

The outer skin of the pavilion is made of mineral fiber fabric, semi-transparent and permeable, showcasing the architecture's ability to be light in its footprint, ephemeral, and transformative. The supporting structure is composed of prefabricated and dismountable modules in laminated wood: a work that, with the advanced technology of the Japanese industry, allows for the reproduction of the extensive traditional Italian coffered ceiling. The Pavilion is designed systematically to be reversible, energy-efficient, and responsible in the use of resources
