New residence in Villejuif: 130 temporary social housing units

On the border between a residential neighborhood and the future UAD (urban development zone), the project of new residence in Villejuif consists of two buildings that relate to each other through a common entrance square and open up to the city while simultaneously protecting their guests

A dynamic and recognizable facade that contributes to the neighborhood's identity

Located at the intersection of avenue du Président Salvador Allende, a large and busy street, the drivable Rue du Docteur Pinel, and the pedestrian street Charles Dehan, the new residence in Villejuif is one of the social residential architecture projects by the French studio Avenier Cornejo Architectes. Positioned at the strategic border between a residential neighborhood and the new urban area, the complex consisting of two buildings harmoniously and openly integrates with a dynamic and recognizable facade that can also be seen from afar, contributing to the new identity of the city area

The shared entrance square creates a visual opening towards the garden

The common entrance always keeps alive the relationship between the two compact volumes that make up the intervention, which house the 130 temporary social housing units with their respective services: the common rooms, the laundry room, the offices, the staff space, etc. The presence of the shared entrance square creates a visual opening towards the internal garden, visible but protected from the street traffic. The terrace roof on the 4th floor is treated with greenery, with the intention of making it a fifth facade that makes the horizontal surface aesthetically pleasing and contemporary

An essential and material aesthetic

Internally, particular attention has been paid to the paths taken by the inhabitants, studying design strategies that ensure natural light and materials that stimulate feelings of comfort from the street entrance to the front door. The aesthetic of the residence is essential and material: the facades display the dense texture of handmade bricks in beige tones, sustainable and requiring low maintenance; the frames and blinds are bronze-colored aluminum, the latter masked on the outside by panels of the same color as the facades. The structure is made of concrete; the external insulation ensures excellent thermal inertia
