Zirmerhof Meadow Houses: new rooms for a hotel in South Tyrol

Zirmerhof Meadow Houses, designed by AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi, are two small wooden architectures that add six new rooms to the Zirmerhof Hotel, transforming them into an art installation and architecture in harmony with nature.

Between nature, architecture, and memory

The Zirmerhof Meadow Houses, designed by AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi, are part of the vision of the Milanese studio known for its architectural projects that combine ethics, aesthetics, and sustainability. The two wooden buildings expand the hospitality of the Zirmerhof Hotel with six new rooms immersed in the landscape. The material used is Vaia wood, sourced from trees felled by the 2018 storm that also hit the surrounding forests. This wood, a symbol of resilience and regeneration, has been transformed into an installation of art and architecture perfectly integrated into the natural context.

A construction in harmony with the territory

Every detail of the project has been designed to interact with nature, history, and the identity of the place. The choice to use only felled trees is a gesture that combines sustainability and respect for the territory. The wood from recovered spruces has been used to create beams and load-bearing walls, while larches have been used for formwork, cladding, flooring, and interior walls. The wood, a living and ever-changing element, is the main protagonist of the intervention, selected for its ability to transform over time, just like the surrounding landscape.

Dialogue between architectural form and tradition

From a formal point of view, the two architectures reinterpret in a contemporary key the profiles of the traditional farm barns. The roofs with soft lines recall ancient construction techniques, maintaining a strongly innovative identity. The two houses stand out for their shape and layout: the first, with a circular plan, houses two suites on two levels; the second, with a linear shape, contains four apartments spread over two levels and a large central space with double height. A sober yet expressive architectural language that blends with the Alpine landscape.

Design and craftsmanship details

Both houses feature panoramic terraces on the upper floor and a continuous porch on the ground floor, elements that interact with the landscape and invite contemplation. The grid design of the windows is inspired by the traditional windows of mountain houses, giving a sense of familiarity and warmth. The interiors, conceived as a true scenography, were created in collaboration with Produzione Privata, the entity founded by Michele De Lucchi to experiment with new forms of design and enhance craftsmanship. A project that combines architecture, nature, and material culture in an authentic balance.
