A strong identity characterizes the new ice cream parlor located inside the Perlan Museum in Reykjavík. The ceiling is made of sound-absorbing material that captures the visitor's gaze in a kaleidoscopic composition of shapes and colors.

Panels that create atmospheres

The choice of the design studio Atelier Tobia Zambotti, although simple and economical, creates an immersive and dynamic space. The repetitive design of the sound-absorbing sponge pyramids creates an optical illusion that draws the visitor towards the focal point, the ice cream display, the only element that stands out from the white and blue palette that defines the entire space.

Inspiration from nature

The project concept originated from a client's request: to create an attractive and unique design. The design studio drew inspiration from caves in glaciers and their ever-changing reflections and colors. The ceiling pattern reinterprets this naturalistic scenario, transforming it into an iconic element.

Ceiling as an identity element

This is emphasized by the stainless steel back-counter that reflects the icy light of 4500K LED strips. The ceiling characterizes the entire space and at the same time defines the design of all other elements: from the full arch service door that follows the shape of the ceiling to the white corian counter.

Iceland in the ice cream shop

The cash register and other objects are hidden from view and the noise of the refrigerators is muffled by the sound-absorbing sponge pyramids on the ceiling. The Perlan ice cream shop, following the philosophy of the museum itself, celebrates the beauty and uniqueness of Icelandic nature with a bold and captivating design that can be found in similar interior design projects in Northern Europe.
