The proposal of the Mexican architecture studio PALMA for the redevelopment of San Ignacio consists of two main actions: the renovation of the existing house and the configuration of the central courtyard with the construction of two new volumes.
San Ignacio, renovation of a villa used for multiple purposes
San Ignacio is a project of renovation and expansion of a residence located in the state of Nayarit in Mexico. The client's request was to renew the existing building, which was in poor condition, and to build two new volumes, one to serve as a flexible space for photography services and other creative expressions, and the second as an outdoor living space directly connected to the pool.

The existing volume is extended to the limit of the lot, redistributing the bedrooms with the bathrooms and adding a private patio for the master bedroom's bathroom, as well as a small TV room and laundry at the ends of the block. The metal roof is removed and replaced with a concrete slab that provides greater height to the spaces and the possibility to include a series of skylights that allow more natural light.
The second action of the requalification consists in reconfiguring the central open space, placing the pool in the center of the lot with the existing volume to the north and the two new volumes on the sides. To create some privacy between the pool area and the rooms, a series of short walls are built, which also define a porch with a bamboo roof that provides some shade.
The newly constructed volumes, one enclosed and the other open, serve as flexible spaces for various activities and maintain a constant relationship with the circular pool located in the middle. Finally, a landscaping project has been implemented that intertwines the existing house and the new additions, primarily through the use of a brick-paved sidewalk that seems to disappear as one walks from the house towards the garden.
