Between sea and lagoon: the architecture that breathes the landscape

A residence composed of three pavilions arranged along a narrow and deep lot, where solids and voids create a harmonious relationship between nature, light, and ventilation. A project that enhances the climate, the view, and the respect for the coastal location of Yucatán.

A sequence of volumes and landscapes

The house is articulated in three pavilions arranged along a long and narrow plot, placed alternately to create a sequence of volumes and interstices. The layout generates a balanced rhythm between solid and empty spaces, between public and private areas, between open and closed environments. The pavilions, conceived as prismatic bodies of minimal width, allow for unobstructed and continuous views along the entire property, promoting cross-ventilation and maintaining constant visual connections with the surrounding landscape.

A harmonious relationship with the coastal context

The compositional strategy of the architectural design firm reyes ríos + larraín arquitectos responds to the desire to preserve and enhance the site. The two pavilions facing the sea are raised on concrete pillars and positioned beyond the second dune, reducing the impact on the natural ecosystem. In the center, the middle pavilion houses a habitable roof, crowned by a pergola suspended on only two support points: a contemplation platform open to a double horizon, that of the sea to the north and the lagoon to the south. In this place, the perception of the environment intensifies, enhancing the contemplative dimension of living.

Open spaces and balanced microclimate

The configuration of the pavilions allows to maximize the views and let the sea breeze flow through all the spaces. In this logic, the architecture projects become real passive climatic devices, capable of regulating temperature, light, and humidity without depending on mechanical systems and minimizing energy consumption. The project also foresees the possible densification of neighboring lots, preserving the free perception of the landscape and ensuring a constant quality of outdoor life over time.

Local Materials and Sustainable Construction

For the construction, natural and local materials such as bamboo, limestone, and subtropical hardwood were chosen, favoring techniques that reduce environmental impact and enhance integration with the surroundings. The interior and exterior surfaces are coated with a pigmented stucco developed in collaboration with a cement company, capable of ensuring resistance and color stability without the need for painting over time. A sustainable solution that significantly reduces maintenance in the intense climatic conditions of the Yucatán coast.
