Kindergarten between nature and community

In the heart of Chienes, a new kindergarten and nursery school is taking shape, combining functionality, sustainability, and aesthetics. A wooden building, bright and welcoming, designed to promote autonomy, movement, and social interaction, becoming a new reference point for the community.

A new center for village life

The new school complex designed by Roland Baldi Architects is located in the strategic position occupied by the old nursery school, between the elementary school and the public spaces of the center. This choice strengthens urban continuity and transforms the building into a daily reference point. The external zig-zag ramp overcomes the four-meter height difference and ensures barrier-free access, connecting the nursery school to the upper part of the village and the church. A simple but significant solution, confirming how even architectural projects can become tools for inclusion.

Flexible spaces for growth and learning

The internal layout meets the needs of the youngest: on the ground floor there are the entrance hall, movement room, and cloakroom, designed as fluid spaces for meeting and play. A dedicated entrance directly connects to the children's restaurant, allowing students from the nearby elementary school to access the cafeteria without interfering with the activities of the nursery. The external kiosk serves as a social point during public events, creating a virtuous relationship between the building and the square. On the first floor, the classrooms facing the garden, the workshops, and the nursery receive natural light through large openings and have covered outdoor spaces that can be used in every season.

Natural Materials and Dialogue with the Context

The building combines a ground floor in concrete and a first floor in X-lam wood, topped by a green roof that enhances comfort and energy performance. The red-brown stained wood cladding recalls colors and materials of the historic center, while the granite cladding of the ground floor integrates with the stone wall of the nearby rehearsal room. Inside, birch, oiled wooden surfaces, and custom-made furniture create a warm and protective atmosphere. Attention to detail and material quality helps define a welcoming place, designed for the daily well-being of children.

Sustainability, safety, and high standards

The complex is built according to the CasaClima A standard, with an air-water heat pump, controlled ventilation with heat recovery, and photovoltaic panels integrated into the green roof. The project, supported by the PNRR and compliant with the DNSH principle, also addresses fundamental issues such as protection from radon, which is particularly relevant in the area. A reinforced concrete slab, cellular glass panels, and waterproof membranes ensure maximum safety. A school that not only welcomes but also protects, embodying a modern and responsible vision of construction dedicated to the youngest.
