In the heart of the Moon Mountains, in Cesana Torinese, a rustic building is transformed into a modern alpine retreat. Wood, light, and landscape become the essential elements of a project that combines tradition and contemporaneity.

A shape that follows the profile of the mountains

The project was born in 2021 from the desire of the clients to transform an old rustic building into a modern and welcoming chalet. The clients already had a general shape in mind, but were looking for a new vision of the interior spaces and livability. The building thus takes on an iconic silhouette, similar to an Indian tent, where the roof becomes a wall, recalling the cuneiform profile of the surrounding mountains. The large glass surfaces at the opposite ends open the house to the landscape, while the opaque slopes house integrated photovoltaic panels.

Spaces on multiple levels to experience mountain living

The house designed by Antonio Perrone is spread over three levels, in a perfect balance between functionality and intimacy. The basement accommodates the garage, a sky-room, a bathroom, and a wellness area, creating a retreat after a day on the slopes. On the main floor, the large living room with a loft opens up to the panoramic terrace, while two bedrooms and two bathrooms complete the sleeping area. A staircase connects all levels up to the master room on the first floor, equipped with a dedicated bathroom and access to a small alcove in the attic. This project is part of the architecture projects dedicated to living at high altitudes, where comfort and landscape merge into a single vision.

Wood as the material of the soul

The absolute protagonist of the project is the thermally treated larch wood, which defines the structure and claddings, both internally and externally. The material provides warmth and visual continuity, accompanied by elements in metal and glass that lighten the composition. Custom-made floors, windows, and furniture reflect the natural grain, creating a coherent dialogue with the landscape. Soft furnishings in neutral and natural tones complete the color palette, in harmony with the alpine environment.

Custom-made furnishings and light as poetry

Inside the chalet, every element is designed to interact with the architecture: the staircase, the kitchen, the tables, and the wardrobes are custom-made. Alongside these, there are a few but recognizable design pieces: the Edra sofa, the Focus fireplace, the lamps from Artemide and Flos. At the top of the loft, the Moon lamp by Davide Groppi recalls the nearby Mountains of the Moon, suspended like a luminous satellite. Outside, the wooden terrace hosts a large table and a fireplace for convivial moments, while the panoramic balconies project the rooms towards the valley, enhancing the connection with nature.
