Low Cost comprehensive renovation for the realization of the Getafe Student Residence
In Spain, an old building in the city center is completely renovated and transformed into the new Getafe Student Residence. The challenge of the project is its total renewal with the smallest budget to make the investment as attractive and advantageous as possible
In this case, the "theme" of the student residence allowed the architects to rethink the entire interior of the building, seeking new common areas for social interaction, along with the study of a more efficient distribution to achieve the highest number of rooms possible. To be able to satisfy the premise of a low-cost, comprehensive renovation of the building, economical and durable materials were used, without giving up playing with bold colors and finishes
For the new Getafe Student Residence, simple solutions were adopted that at the same time give the feeling of fun and fresh spaces, allowing natural light to flood the interior of the building, resulting in a set of functional and welcoming spaces for students. As with any complete renovation of a respectable building, some surprises arose along the way: excessively weak floors and some compromised load-bearing walls whose restoration consumed a good part of the budget
The architects also had to face the construction site during the covid-19 pandemic, which obviously affected all the work, but in the end the intervention turned out to be a success because the client's goal was achieved: with the smallest possible investment, they achieved the extraordinary transformation of an old building that no one could have ever imagined could have a second chance so full of color and vitality
