The lightness and strength of the new in Le Terrazze di Vicolo Bianco

An urban regeneration project in an area of the urban fabric of Bologna characterized by high density buildings from the post-war period and "episodes" from the 60s-70s, the residential building Le Terrazze di Vicolo Bianco asserts its genealogical difference by proposing a place to live updated to contemporary sensibilities

A contemporary residence with "universal accessibility"

GBa Studio by Gianluca Brini Architect designs the residential building with 9 housing units distributed from the first to the fourth floor, reserving the ground level for common areas, garages, technical rooms, and other ancillary spaces. Unlike other architecture projects of this kind, due to the limited size of the lot, it was not possible to build a basement, but every access and pathway of the building is designed to ensure conditions of total "universal accessibility." The first upper level houses 4 apartments and the second 3, while the last two have a single apartment per floor.

Contrasting volumes to insert the new into the existing

The architectural volume of Le Terrazze is strongly influenced by the limited size of the lot and the necessary distances from the boundaries, as well as by the presence of neighboring buildings. The new building that fits into a compact urban fabric with the lightness and, at the same time, the strength of the new: horizontal and projecting vertical planes, voids and solids, contrasts of horizontal and vertical lines emphasized by metallic bands. All the compositional elements highlight and enhance the volumetric tripartition with the service strip on the ground floor followed by a standard block for floors 1 and 2 and again the block of the penthouses for floors 3 and 4

Highest energy performance and elimination of the heat island effect

The external walls of the building are made of perforated brick blocks and thermal insulation to achieve the highest energy performance. The insulation is finished with SPIDEREX K8 technology, which allows for a true cement plaster, then painted with different shades of gray. Large areas dedicated to greenery complete the project, with planted roofs and planters for vegetation on the south terraces. Thanks to the choice of materials and metallic sunshades, along with the color schemes and shading supports, the residence Le Terrazze di Vicolo Bianco completely avoids the formation of the heat island phenomenon
